{ Islam }

Islam is Arabic word which means (surrender). This means to accept the power
of Allah,and follow
commands. Happiness in this life and success in the life after death can only
be obtained by obeying Allah.
Islam is not only a religion, but a complete way of life. This means that it
shows us how to live all aspects of our lives in the best possible way.

There are Five pillars on which islam stands. They are:

1.To firmly believe in the heart and declare:

(laa ilaaha illallaah,Muhammadur-Rasulullaah)

'There is on god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messener of Allah'
This is what is meant by Iman(Belief)

2.To pray five times a day(perform salat).
3.To pay Zakat.
4.To fast during the month of Ramadan.
5.To go on Hajj(pilgrimage) to Makkah once in a lifetime if one can afford it.

A person who accepts islam is called a Muslim. It means 'one who surrenders'.
A Muslim is required to do all that Allah and His Messenger {Allah is peace &
blessings be upon him} have asked to do, and to keep away from doing things
which Allah and His Messenger {Allah is peace & blessings be upon him} have
told not to do.

Allah and His Messenger {Allah is peace & blessings be upon him} have told us
to do good deeds like being kind to our parents, to help others who are less
fortunate and to be kind to animals.

Allah ( The god )

*Allah is one and almighty.
*He is our lord.
*He has created us and everything that is in the earth and the heavens.
*He has no partner.
*He has no mother or father, son or daughter.
*He is Eternal.
*there is nothing similar to him.
*He knows everything.
*He sees everything.
*Nothing is hidden from him.
*He is clement and forgiving.
*He is kind and loving. He is Gracious and merciful.
*Allah has beautiful Names which indicate His attributes.
*He is the one who provides each and every one of His creation with the means
to survive. He is the one who has created everything for our survival like the
earth in which crops grow, the sun which provides warmth, water which living
things drink from, the air which they breathe and kindling for fire.
*Muslims should turn only to him in their times of need and for sadness.
*Muslims should seek help only from him.
*He is the one who is worthy of worship. Nothing else should be worshipped but
He. There is no greater sin than shirk, which means to associate partners or
cause us harm, or worship or seek help from others besides him.

( Muhammad is the messenger of Allah )

Muhammad {Allah is peace & blessings be upon him} was the last prophet. Allah
chose him to reveal; His last message. He came with complete guidance for
mankind. He received the Noble (quran) from Allah through the Angel jibril.

Muhammad, was born in Makkah in the year 570, at a time when Christianity was
not yet fully established in Europe. Since his father died before his birth,
and his mother shortly afterwards, he was raised by his uncle from the
respected tribe of Quraysh. As he grew up, he became known for his
truthfulness, generosity and sincerity, so that he was sought after for his
ability to arbitrate in disputes. The historians describe him as calm and
meditative.

Muhammad was of a deeply religious nature, and had long detested the decadence
of his society. It became his habit to meditate from time to time in the Cave
of Hira near the summit of Jabal al-Nur, the 'Mountain of Light' near Makkah.

How did Muhammad become a prophet and a messenger of God?
At the age of 40, while engaged in a meditative retreat, Muhammad received his
first revelation from God through the Angel Gabriel. This revelation, which
continued for twenty-three years, is known as the Quran.

The Mountain of Light
where Gabriel came to
Prophet Muhammad.
As soon as he began to recite the words he heard from Gabriel, and to preach
the truth which God had revealed to him, he and his small group of followers
suffered bitter persecution, which grew so fierce that in the year 622 God
gave them the command to emigrate. This event, the Hijra, 'migration', in
which they left Makkah for the city of Madinah some 260 miles to the north,
marks the beginning of the Muslim calendar.

After several years, the Prophet and his followers were able to return to
Makkah, where they forgave their enemies and established Islam definitively.
Before the Prophet died at the age of 63, the greater part of Arabia was
Muslim, and within a century of his death Islam had spread to Spain in the
West and as far East as China.

Examples of the Prophet's sayings
The Prophet said:

'God has no mercy on one who has no mercy for others.'

'None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for
himself.'

'He who eats his fill while his neighbor goes without food is not a believer.
'

'The truthful and trusty businessman is associated with the prophets the
saints, and the martyrs.'

'Powerful is not he who knocks the other down, indeed powerful is he who
controls himself in a fit of anger. '
'God does not judge according to your bodies and appearances but He scans your
hearts and looks into your deeds.'

'A man walking along a path felt very thirsty. Reaching a well he descended
into it, drank his fill and came up. Then he saw a dog with its tongue hanging
out, trying to lick up mud to quench its thirst. The man saw that the dog was
feeling the same thirst as he had felt so he went down into the well again and
filled his shoe with water and gave the dog a drink. God forgave his sins for
this action.' The Prophet was asked: 'Messenger of God, are we rewarded for
kindness towards animals?' He said, 'There is a reward for kindness to every
living thing.'

The Noble ( Quran )
'Alif Laam Raa. A book which we have revealed to you (Muhammad) so that you
may lead the people from out of the darknesses into the light by their Lord's
leave to the path of the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy.' [Qur'an 14:1]

The Qur'an ('Qor-Ann') is a Message from Allah to humanity. It was transmitted
to us in a chain starting from the Almighty Himself (swt) to the angel Gabriel
to the Prophet Muhammad (saas). This message was given to the Prophet (saas)
in pieces over a period spanning approximately 23 years (610 CE to 622 CE).
The Prophet (saas) was 40 years old when the Qur'an began to be revealed to
him, and he was 63 when the revelation was completed. The language of the
original message was Arabic, but it has been translated into many other
languages.

The Qur'an is one leg of two which form the basis of Islam. The second leg is
the Sunnah of the Prophet (saas). What makes the Qur'an different from the
Sunnah is primarily its form. Unlike the Sunnah, the Qur'an is quite literally
the Word of Allah, whereas the Sunnah was inspired by Allah but the wording
and actions are the Prophet's. The Qur'an has not been expressed using any
human's words. Its wording is letter for letter fixed by no one but Allah.

Prophet Muhammad (saas) was the final Messenger of Allah to humanity, and
therefore the Qur'an is the last Message which Allah has sent to us. Its
predecessors such as the Torah, Psalms, and Gospels have all been superceded.
It is an obligation - and blessing - for all who hear of the Qur'an and Islam
to investigate it and evaluate it for themselves. Allah has guaranteed that He
will protect the Qur'an from human tampering, and today's readers can find
exact copies of it all over the world. The Qur'an of today is the same as the
Qur'an revealed to Muhammad (saas).

The Qur'an is the very word of God, Almighty. A complete record of the exact
words revealed by God through the Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad.

The Qur'an was memorized by Muhammad and his followers, dictated to his
companions, and written down by scribes, who cross-checked it during the
Prophet's lifetime. Not one word of its 114 surahs (parts or chapters) has
been changed over the centuries. The Qur'an is in every detail the same unique
and miraculous text that was revealed to Muhammad fourteen centuries ago.

The Qur'an is the principal source of every Muslim's faith and practice. It
deals with all subjects that concern us as human beings, including wisdom,
doctrine, worship and law; but its basic theme is the relationship between God
and His creatures. At the same time, the Qur'an provides guidelines for a just
society, proper human conduct and equitable economic principles.

Why does Islam often seem strange?
Islam may seem exotic or even extreme in the modern world. Perhaps this is
because religion does not dominate everyday life in the West today, whereas
Muslims have religion always uppermost in their minds, and make no division
between secular and sacred. They believe that the Divine Law, the Shari'a,
should be taken very seriously, which is why issues related to religion are
still so important.
